Prices at the Midwinterflora

Mak breeding has got high scores at the Midwinterflora 2010 edition. Just like last year Oriental Lily Lake Carey® was crowned as best of the show with a score of 9.43. He was just ahead of the recently introduced lily Tabledance® and the red Oriental Bacardi® also from Mak Breeding. The fourth (Camengo®), fifth (Jetaime®) and sixth (White Heaven®) places were also lilies from Mak. The complete results can be found in this  pdf of the VKC

Each year during Horti Fair GrowerTalks takes the time to explore some interesting aspect of the Dutch floriculture industry. Paradero® also the best at the Hortifair

At the Hortifair 2007 the Oriental Paradero® wins gold with a score 9.61. It's the fourth time in 2007 that this rase wins the first price. Lake Carey® and from Liliande the OT Nymph® shared the second place with a score 9.50.

Lilium Paradero® winner at BolleNoord

The big winner for the lilyshow at Bollenoord is the pink lily with a white border named Lilium Paradero® of Mak Breeding from Wieringerwerf. The showlily with big flowers, pretty coloured buts, nice leafs and a heavy build stem. Paradero® had the highest score 9,50 en the cup for best lily at the hybridisers.

Paradero® win 1e price hybridiser at Plasbokaal

Saturday 1 September 07 was at company "kwekerij De Plas" in Noorden (NL) the battle for "de Plasbokaal" For "de Plasbokaal" the participations receive a box with bulbs (this year Oriental Vespucci). To compete the sender sends 10 flowers from the lily to be judged by the jury. For the third time in a row the brothers Thijs and Tim van de Berg from Breezand had the first price with the mark 9,55.

For the hybridisers there were separate VKC testing. The top three in the different groups is as follows.

Such as usual the hybridiser were put also in the opportunity to show their newest races. Nearly all hybridisers were present and the total quality of the show was called high. For the hybridisers they made no different between groups of lilies but just 1 thirst price. Just like during the Lillie parade on the keukenhof it was again the oriental of Mak Breeding Paradero® that received the first price. Paradero® remained a score of 9.59 en that was 0.01 better then the pretty Nymph® of Liliande. The top 5 score of the hybridisers is as follows:

LILY: new hybrids emerging

Mak scores high at Lily parade Keukenhof

Once again Mak scored high at the largest lily show in the world. In various groups Mak won first prize.

Longiflorum

In the group Longiflorum ‘White Heaven’ captured first prize again. With a score of 9.49 this variety stood out among the other longiflorums at the Keukenhof.

Orientals

In the large group Orientals the top three consists of Orientals coming from Mak Breeding. The second award was for the Oriental Penthouse®, sent in by growers association “the Originals”. This pink white acquisition from the breeding program of Mak Breeding scored 9.44 points. The winner of the last 2 years in the group Orientals Lake Carey® kwam dit jaar met een score van 9.46 net te kort voor de 1e award. scored 9.46 and just missed the first award. The unrivalled champion in this group is the new Paradero® with a socre of 9.56.

OT

In the group OT hybrids the by now well-known Nymph® ran off with the first award. With a score of 9.53 this impressive OT had little opposition again.

Pot Asiatics

In the group pot lilies the competition was between Mak Breeding and “the Originals”. The varieties sent in by both participants are coming from the breeding material from Mak Breeding which naturally makes this contest very interesting. With the pot Asiatics Tiny Bee® (from the Lily Looks series) originating from Mak, scored 9.48 and was just ahead of "Buzzer" (9.43) which was sent in by "the Originals".

Pot Orientals

With the pot Orientals it was just the other way around Starlight Express® sent in by ‘the Originals’, received highest credits with a score of 9.60 with which it narrowly won from After Eight® (9.55) that was sent in by Mak. Growers association ‘The Originals’ introduces ‘Tango Lilies’ at Keukenhof.

In the Prince Willem Alexander Pavilion the largest lily show in the world can be seen from May 11th until May 20th, with more than 20.000 lilies in over 300 different varieties. The lilies that are currently being used by consumers as cut flower, pot plant or in the garden are being divided in three main groups: Asiatic types, Oriental types and Longiflorums. Breeders, who by crossing make new varieties, are improving the assortment by combining the desired qualities. By doing this they also create new colours and shapes, stronger flowers and stems and possibilities for a more efficient production. Breeding requires patience and vision: it takes at least ten years before deliverable novelties can be obtained from crossings. Who knows now which colours are fashionable at that time? Keukenhof is the popular stage to show and test lily novelties with the many visitors from home and abroad, hobbyists as well as lily professionals. Bandoneon player Carel Kraaijenhof will baptized the lily ‘Adios Nonino’. It is also the song he played at the wedding of the crown prince with Maxima. The new lily is one of the most beautiful samples of the new Tango Lily-series, of which already three varieties are available. The Tango Lily-series is special because of the dark heart in the flower and the large colour richness, in which new varieties of this type will be coming available. The Tango Lily-series belongs to the Asiatic types, with upstanding flowers in many, bright colours. This group of lilies (coming from the breeding material from Mak Breeding), will be introduced by growers association ‘the Originals’ who have a large variety of colours available within their ‘Tango Lily’ assortment. The name ‘Tango Lily’ has been patented by ‘the Originals’ world wide.

White Heaven (longiflorum) obtained a first prize with the highest points (9.50). The second highest score (9.38) also was won by Mak for the lily Lake Carey. “A result of which we are very proud of”, says Niels Mak.
