Early September is traditionally the battle for the Plas Cup organized by nursery “de Plas” in ‘t noorden. The competition is a match between forcers who all have grown the same variety. This year the first prize was won by Jurgen de Graaff from Julianadorp.
by As a result of the professional organization this show has grown into one of the major lily shows of the year. Obviously this show is therefore well attended by domestic and foreign lily people. This year the prizes were presented by the author Beertje van Beers and "Miss Lily" Dorien van de Berg.
That the Plas Cup has become a major show is also evident from the many entries of the breeders. There was sufficient competition in all groups. In the group Asiatics and LA's the LA Desert Inn® from Mark Lily achieved the highest score.
In Oriëntals the battle was even more exciting given the large number (49) of entries. Mak Breeding had five varieties in the top seven. In joint third place were Avalonia® and Ortolan®. On a shared fifth place followed the varieties Bacardi®, Paradero® and Rhone®. The second place was reserved for the soft pink Burlesca® from Vletter & den Haan and the first prize in this group was claimed by the white Signum® from Royal van Zanten.
The increasing importance of OT hybrids is shown by the large number of entries in this category. More then 30 varieties were submitted but only one could be the best. Not for the first time the pink OT Tabledance® from Mak Breeding showed to be the best. With a score of 9.52 Tabledance® again showed to be a real price winner.
In pot lilies there were two awards. For Pot asiatics van Schie Potlelies got the first prize with a nice pot of Matrix®. This was closely followed by the Lily Looks® varieties Tiny Dessert®, Tiny Invader® and Tiny Double You®.
Best pot Oriental was the famous red After Eight® that is also part of the Lily Looks® brand.
